Terms of Use
The license you get when you buy a NewMac app, and the rules for using it, in plain English.
Last updated: 28 October 2026
- Buy an app once and use it on 1, 3 or 5 Macs, depending on the plan. No subscription.
- Every app needs a license key; it asks for one the first time you open it.
- Updates are free for as long as we publish them. Refunds are available within 14 days.
- The apps work on your files, so keep backups. Our liability is limited to what you paid.
1. About these terms
NewMac (“we”, “us”) is operated by [LEGAL ENTITY NAME], [REGISTERED ADDRESS], India. We make the Mac apps sold at newmac.app: Nook, DevSweep, Clipnest, Reelcast, Transmute, Folio, Utter, Ribbon, Mailcellar, Nightwatch, Shareline and Mantel (the “apps”).
These terms are an agreement between you and us. By buying, installing or using an app, you agree to them. If you buy for a business, you confirm you can accept them for that business. How we handle data is explained in our Privacy Policy.
The apps are sold outside the Mac App Store. Apple is not a party to these terms and has no responsibility for the apps or their support.
2. Buying an app
- Merchant of Record. Purchases are sold and processed by our reseller, Dodo Payments, as Merchant of Record. Dodo takes the payment, charges any applicable sales tax or GST, issues your invoice and sends your license key. Your purchase is also governed by Dodo’s Buyer Terms. If they conflict with these terms about the app itself, these terms apply.
- Prices. Prices on our site are shown in Indian rupees (INR). Dodo may show and charge the price in your local currency and add taxes that apply where you live; the checkout shows the final amount before you pay. Your bank may add its own foreign-exchange fees.
- One-time purchase. Each app is a single payment for a lasting license. There is no subscription and nothing renews.
- A key is required. Anyone can download the apps, but each one asks for a license key when you first open it and works only once a valid key is activated. There is no free-use period, so please read the app’s page and watch its demo before you buy. If the app doesn’t suit you, the 14-day refund applies.
- Requirements. The apps need macOS 14 Sonoma or later and run on Macs with Apple silicon or Intel processors. Some features depend on the hardware and on permissions you grant in macOS.
3. Your license
When you buy an app and your payment clears, we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, perpetual license to install and use that app (including updates we publish for it) on up to the number of Macs in your plan at the same time:
- 1 Mac plan: one Mac.
- 3 Macs plan: up to three Macs.
- 5 Macs plan: up to five Macs.
The Macs must be ones you own or control. You may use the apps for personal or work purposes. A license covers one app only, unless what you bought was described as a bundle. We keep all rights we don’t expressly grant you; you are buying a license to use the software, not the software itself.
4. Activating and moving Macs
- You activate an app by pasting your license key into it. Dodo’s license server enforces the number of Macs in your plan.
- To move a license, open the app on the old Mac and choose “Deactivate this Mac”, then activate on the new one. If the old Mac is lost or broken, email us and we’ll free the activation.
- Activating needs an internet connection. After that the app works offline. It re-checks the license about once a week when you’re online; if it can’t reach the server for a long time it reminds you to connect, but a network problem on its own never locks you out.
- Activation sends your license key and your Mac’s name and model to Dodo. See the Privacy Policy for details.
5. What you may not do
- Share, publish, sell, rent or give away your license key, or use it on more Macs than your plan allows.
- Get around, disable or tamper with the license check, or help anyone else do so.
- Copy, redistribute, resell or sublicense the apps, or offer them as a hosted service, except for installing them on your own Macs under your license.
- Reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the apps, except where the law allows it despite this restriction.
- Use the apps to break the law or to access data, accounts, mail or file servers you are not authorised to access.
6. Refunds
You can ask for a full refund within 14 days of purchase. When a refund is issued, the license key is disabled and the app stops working on every Mac where it was activated. Full details are in our Refund Policy.
7. Updates
- Updates to an app are free for as long as we publish them. We may in future release new apps or a major new version of an app as a separate paid product; if we do, the version you bought keeps working under these terms.
- The apps check for updates and, unless you turn it off in Settings, download and install them automatically. Every update is checked against our digital signature before it is installed.
- A future update may need a newer version of macOS. If your Mac can’t run it, you can keep using the version you have.
- Updates may add, change or improve features. We don’t have to keep publishing updates for any app, but an app you’ve activated keeps working if we stop.
8. Installing
The apps are distributed directly from our website, not through the Mac App Store, and are signed by us rather than notarised by Apple. The first time you open one, macOS asks you to confirm in System Settings → Privacy & Security. Our install guide explains each step. Only download the apps from newmac.app; we can’t vouch for copies from anywhere else.
9. Support
Email [email protected]. We answer by email, usually within a few working days, on a reasonable-effort basis. Support covers installing, activating and using the current version of the apps on supported versions of macOS.
10. Services you connect
Some apps work with services that you choose and that we don’t control: Mailcellar connects to your email provider over IMAP; Shareline connects to your own file servers (SMB, AFP, NFS or WebDAV); Mantel reads from your Photos library, which may be stored in iCloud; DevSweep can run cleanup commands built into developer tools you have installed, such as Homebrew, Docker and Xcode. Your use of those services is governed by their own terms. You are responsible for having the right to access the accounts and servers you connect, and we aren’t responsible for their availability, limits, or how they handle your data.
11. Your data and backups
The apps work on your own files, mail and settings, and only change or remove things when you ask them to. We design them to be careful:
- Nook moves files you tidy away to the Trash. DevSweep moves items to the Trash by default. If you switch DevSweep to “Delete permanently” in Settings, or run a cleanup that uses a developer tool’s own command (for example
brew cleanup, docker system pruneorxcrun simctl delete unavailable), those items are removed permanently and can’t be restored from the Trash. - Mailcellar deletes messages from your mail server only when you use “Free up space”, and only for messages whose local copy it has verified, checking each one again just before deleting. Deleted server messages can’t be recovered from Mailcellar; your local backup is then the only copy.
- Transmute and Folio save new files and never overwrite an existing file.
Even so, software can fail and mistakes happen. You are responsible for keeping regular backups (for example with Time Machine) of anything important before using features that move, change or delete data. Your data remains yours; we have no access to it.
12. Disclaimer
We work hard to make the apps reliable, and we will fix genuine bugs we can reproduce. But, to the extent the law allows, the apps are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don’t promise that an app will be error-free, work without interruption, or work with every other app, service or version of macOS.
13. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows:
- we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for loss of data, profits, revenue, business or goodwill, arising from your use of or inability to use the apps, even if we were told such loss was possible;
- our total liability to you for all claims relating to an app is limited to the amount you paid for that app.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that can’t be limited by law, such as for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or takes away rights you have as a consumer under the laws of the country where you live.
14. When a license ends
- Your license lasts indefinitely unless it ends under this section. You can stop using an app at any time by deleting it.
- If you get a refund, or reverse the payment through a chargeback or bank dispute, the license key is disabled and the app stops working on all your Macs. If a chargeback is resolved in our favour, contact us and we’ll restore the key.
- If you seriously break these terms, for example by publishing or selling your key, we may disable the key after telling you why by email.
- When a license ends, you must stop using the app. Files you created with it stay on your Mac and remain yours. Sections 5 and 10 to 16 continue to apply.
15. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of India. Courts at [CITY], India have jurisdiction over any dispute, except that if you are a consumer you may also bring a claim in the courts of the country where you live, and you keep any mandatory consumer protections of that country. Please contact us first: most problems can be solved quickly by email.
16. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example when we add apps or the law changes. We will change the date at the top and, for significant changes, mention them in release notes. The version in force when you bought an app governs that purchase, except for changes that only benefit you or that the law requires.
